If technostalgia is a defining characteristic of technocapitalism then it’s hard not to regard BOC’s new album “Inferno” as a pure expression of that tendency. The group’s characteristically euphoric and irreverent sampling, synchronized with Robert Beatty’s seductive visuals, reinforces the point that neither music nor the visual arts are immune to retrospection. The fact that BOC have distilled this tendency so lucidly lays bare the present state of Western cultural flatness as well as their importance to contemporary canon.
